Hey everyone, back again with another adventure! I just left my overnight stop and am continuing my journey through the northern countryside of Bangladesh. The experience so far has been incredible, filled with stunning landscapes and fascinating cultural encounters.
The Journey Begins
I started my trip early, stopping for a quick break before heading towards my next destination, which is about 53 kilometers away. Traveling through rural Bangladesh is an entirely different experience compared to the hustle and bustle of Dhaka. The further north I go, the more laid-back and scenic the journey becomes.
Arriving at My Stay
I finally reached my destination in the afternoon and found accommodation at a hotel recommended by Lonely Planet. The options were limited, but I managed to secure a double room with a TV and, surprisingly, a Western-style toilet! It’s a rare find in these remote areas.
Exploring the Town
Wandering through town, I noticed that despite its remoteness, many locals spoke English. This is likely due to the presence of NGOs that operate here for a few months each year. The people are incredibly friendly, showing a keen interest in travelers like me. The town is also home to a unique mix of religions—Hindus, Christians, and Muslims coexist harmoniously, a refreshing sight to witness.
The China Clay Hills Adventure
One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the China Clay Hills, a picturesque spot near the Indian border. I took a cyclo and a boat ride to get there, passing by local sand extractors working along the river. The panoramic views from the top were absolutely breathtaking. From this vantage point, I could see India on one side and the stunning Bangladesh landscape on the other.
Unexpected Discoveries
While exploring, I came across an unusual sight—a beer bottle floating down the river from India! It seems like an unconventional smuggling method, but it just adds to the many surprises of this journey.
Final Thoughts
This trip has been an eye-opening experience, showcasing a side of Bangladesh that many travelers overlook. The warmth of the people, the stunning landscapes, and the unexpected adventures make it a destination worth exploring.
