ABOUT BUDGET NOMAD

Hello Folks,

I’m Richard, a British guy with an obsession for travel. I started travelling in 2008 when I did a round the world trip. After 4 months, 10 countries, I thought that would be the travel bug out of my system. How wrong was I!!!

I returned to the UK and settled back into my 9-5 routine. Quickly realising, all I wanted to do was travel. So I saved up, sold everything I had, car, furniture etc. Next step was to  book a one-way flight to India. I returned to the UK 3 years later after a mind-blowing adventure.

I have travelled on every inhabited continent on the planet (the ones where people live!!), I have more travel stories than I can recall. I am still travelling the world and having the time of my life. Currently exploring Europe and learning there is more to this continent than meets the eye...

Where did I start ??

I grew up in a little village in Derbyshire in the UK. I am not from a rich background but my family were big travellers. My grandfather travelled all over the world in WW2 and used to tell me stories as a child about the world. From the jungles of Myanmar (Burma) to the caves of Afghanistan. So I was always curious about the world and when I got the chance in my 20’s, I booked a crazy round the world trip with STA Travel, what an experience!!!

After that Born Traveller was created, I just started small, creating the country profiles one by one and began writing a few travel guides for popular countries. I have made contacts all over the world and my friends are now able to give me up to date information on their travels. From that, my own experience and other free information found on the internet I am able to write guides. The guides are free, as I feel backpacking should be for everyone.

So where have I been ??

I have been to 6 out the 7 continents and have had a flavour of each part of the world. So far my favourite countries have been Indonesia and Ethiopia. I think because of the natural landscapes in Indonesia and the history of Ethiopia. As I travel I write guides of the places I have visited.

I believe that anyone can travel the world and make money on the way (See MakeMoney Article). I decided to live this kind of Nomad lifestyle and it has worked out well. I think that people get bogged down in their lives, making payment to mortgages they can’t afford and get stuck in the Ratrace.

How can YOU do this?

The first thing you need to do to be a traveller is to learn to live within your means. So cut up all those credit cards and have no more loans. The next step is to pay any existing debts off. Once you have done this, save a modest amount of money say $3000-$5000 and then book a one-way ticket to where you want to go. Before you go you can sell all the things you don’t need anymore, TV, Car etc and this will give you some extra cash. Ebay is a great place to sell your things.

( The Hammer Tribe in Ethiopia in 2011 )

Travelling is a state of mind, if you want to do it, you will find a way by volunteering, teaching or making money online. All these things are possible, and you can find plenty of information on my website, on how to achieve the same lifestyle as me. The hardest part about travelling is just making your mind up to go, the rest is easy. Once you get started, you will forget about everything you were worried about and only wish you had done it sooner.

Just think, you can be trekking to the top of a volcano, see the hammer tribes in a remote part of Ethiopia or lye on a hammock, on a beach in the Philippines. I can show you the path, but its down to you to walk it, so don’t delay, get planning today.
