Published by Budget Nomad News | June 20, 2025 | Richard Hall LONDON – The United Kingdom has announced the temporary withdrawal of its diplomatic staff from its embassy in Tehran, citing heightened security concerns in the region. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) released a statement on Friday evening confirming the move.
“We have taken the precautionary measure to temporarily withdraw our UK staff from Iran,” the FCDO stated. “Our embassy continues to operate remotely.”
The decision comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, though specific threats to the embassy have not been publicly disclosed. The UK government emphasized that the withdrawal is a precautionary step and does not indicate the closure of diplomatic channels with Iran. Remote operations will continue to ensure that essential diplomatic functions and consular services remain available.

This is the second such move by the UK this week. Just days earlier, British authorities ordered the temporary evacuation of family members of embassy and consulate staff in Israel, also citing regional instability and safety concerns.
While no official travel advisory has been issued for British nationals in Iran at the time of reporting, the FCDO has urged citizens in the region to remain alert, avoid large gatherings, and monitor official guidance closely.
The ongoing instability underscores the fragile security situation in parts of the Middle East, where diplomatic missions have frequently been targets during periods of unrest.
